I have the Xbox 360 Slim Halo Reach Edition and I stand it vertically and the disc drive is scratches my discs really bad. What annoys me even more is that I install every game I play on it in order to reduce scratching...

Is this a common issue with the new 360s? What about you guys that have the console flat, same issue?

I also own the Reach 360. I lay mine flat though, and have had no issues. I've laid all of my 360s flat, and have never had an issue with it scratching discs.

When I bought my 360 slim I scratched 2 disk in two days without moving it ! But when is it's starting to overheating you can hear a vibrating sound from it and I think that's the reason ! I take out 1 computer fan from my old pc and put it on Xbox consule where is original fan and put it in position when it's take air out from consule that help to stay in normal temp and from that time I didn't scratch any disk ;) or you can instal your games on hdd

Its not a heat issue, its been a problem ever since the console came out. The problem is the disc tray, I scratched GOW on my console and ever since that day the console was used laying flat and I never ever had another problem.

Microsoft knows about it too, at one point they were offering compensation for the scratched discs but it was only for popular titles.

I have the XBox 360 slim 250GB and it is horizontal and I've never had a problem with it. But I also don't use it much either.

I think you'll find that if you tilt any disc tray console/computer it will scratch the disc. In the xbox manual it says not to tilt the console whilst their is a disc inside it.

I also scratched my GOW disc but was able to get it replaced.

Yes but you would think in a console they would try to do something to prevent this. Standing vertically, its only on a 2-3" wide platform which is very easily knocked over by pets, family, even a controller cable. It should not be intended to be used vertically if they put no research into the scratching of disks. A simple trip on a cable can cost you a $60 game. But as seen, Microsoft doesn't care much about the people...ending the support for fixing the RROD even though it was still prevalent and only supporting replacement of major titles scratched.

The whole problem is greed, they just had to push it out before PS3 which cost them a lot of development and research time. Even if they released after the PS3 they still would have beat them because of the $600 price tag of the PS3. My personal opinion is that Microsoft is going down, Live is extremely over rated for the price of it and they don't have that many exclusives and Bungie has stopped making Halo. Even more is that all the hits like COD are multi-platform and the whole reason I switched to PS3 was because of the free PSN which in my opinion is just as good as Live and getting better.

I agree that it is an obvious flaw (that also occurs on the PS3) but there's not much that can be done to fix it. Otherwise i'm sure either Sony or Microsoft would have figured it out.

As for microsoft going down, im not so sure. Kinect has had significant sales. 8+ million since launch which is about a 20% adoption rate for people who already have 360s.

And just because Bungie does not make Halo games does not mean that Bungie won't make more xbox games or that there will be no more Halo games. Microsoft owns the rights to the Halo franchise and I'm sure they will continue to milk it for all its worth.

Based on my limited experience with PSN at some mates houses, the cost of xbox live is well worth it.

Either way this is going well off topic.

I believe I read that MS wants to make quite a few more Halo games before the next next gen console. Personally, I like Reach, but am generally over Halo. 1 was still the best IMO.

No matter what other games come out i always find my self gravitating back to Halo. When MW2 came out i played it for a while but still went back to Halo 3. I mainly play Black Ops at the moment but will probably go back to reach sometime soon. Halo never gets old for me.

Tell you the true there was quite a few things they could do to fix it. MS choose the cheap rout and did not do it. You can google it.

I did a bit of googling and whilst i did find a lot of people complaining that their disc got scratched when tilting the console, I didn't find anything about microsoft specifically choosing not to fix the problem when they know how. Guess my googling skills aren't up to par.

Once again I'm going to say this happens on nearly all disc drives so if there was a fix I guess microsoft wasn't the only one to cheap out and not solve the problem.

Hmm, this is worrying as ive got my xbox sideways and never though about it....... Ive got no room to put it flat either, unless i put it on top of my blu ray player (which is quite flimsy).
