iOS xcode 4 auto text respond help

im just starting out using xcode and could use some help. i would like to make an app that responds automatically to any texts i get, how can i do that? or where can i find out how to do it

Not in Native iOS. With that I mean, it's not possible via normal Interface Guidelines, it could be possible via Cydia (jailbroken iPhones).
But not sure how to do that.. Don't think alot of people here know.

would there be around it if i had the app somehow extract the number from the incoming text? like i said i am very new to this but i dont see why that couldn't work

You don't have access to the texts. That's why it wouldn't work.

iOS is sandboxed, how would you extract numbers from an app you cannot acces? It doesn't really have to do with being new, but actually knowing your operating system, how things work, it's oneo f the first things to do. this ain't Android here x)
