I am looking for a good minimalistic image viewer for Mac OS X Panther. There is of course Preview, but I am looking for something like Xee or JustLooking, both excellent image viewers that I have used consistently since my first Tiger-equipped Mac arrived.

Xee for Tiger was v2.2, and JustLooking was v3.2 (and eventually 3.3). I am quite sure that neither of these apps just sprang into existence with such high version numbers (2.2 and 3.3). There HAS to have been earlier versions of both; I have managed to unearth a v2.0 of Xee, but it doesn't run on Panther.

Does anyone here have or know where I could get a Panther-compatible version of Xee or JustLooking? Alternately, perhaps another Panther-compatible similar image viewing app, preferably not a Classic app - I have plenty of those. I am looking for a Mac OS X native app.

Thanks!

I've never used or heard of those, I always just use Preview. What exactly do they offer that preview doesn't?

And a better question, is why not just install Tiger and use either of those apps you want since they are working on Tiger? If your Mac can run Panther, it can run Tiger. If it doesn't have FW just use XPF or clone am existing install. Tiger's better anyway. AND every time you run the installer, it doesn't spend 3 hours "optimizing" like Panther does.
I hate to be that guy, and I'm usually not in most situations. But, for me there is no reason to Panther while Tiger exists. It's essentially a refined Panther that has better software support. It will run just as fast (or as slow) as Panther does.

If running Panther is an absolute must for some reason. Just search the macintosh garden and see what you can find. Maybe there's older versions of those apps that support Panther. Either way, its surprising what one can dig up on that website.

Thanks @Project Alice. To be fair, I am running Panther simply as a historical curiosity... I don't NEED it for this machine (a Power Mac G4 Sawtooth), I just wanted to experience Panther, since my personal Mac OS X journey started in 2006 with Tiger.

I agree, until Sorbet Leopard came along, Tiger was my favorite Mac OS X version.

That’s totally fair!

I’d definitely just search the Garden. There’s bound to be something on there.
