Want to see it come back: Yes. Expect to see it back: no. Apple seems to have gone away from server-related hardware & software. While Apple has the new iMac Pro, I don't see that as the type of computer that goes into grid computing. Plus, the server software Apple makes has lost several of its features, and somewhat over-simplified the remaining features. While I find grid computing useful, I don't see it making very much business sense for Apple. Apple sells millions of iDevices a year, generating billions of dollars. What can we realistically expect from grid computing? A few thousand devices a year? Maybe low millions? Where I work, we used to have a bunch of Xserves. Since Apple axed those, we've switched to mainly online services cloud-hosted services (Google for email, Amazon Web Services for a bunch of stuff, and things here and there), and a few Mac minis in each building for things we couldn't outsource. So while I'd like to see the option, I don't see it as a viable enough market for Apple.
