you'd still be limited to the how fast the hard drive could write data to a drive depending on ATA/SCSI/RAID/RPM etc, and how fast the DVD-ROM can read the data. In other words the bottleneck is the hard drive, and DVD-ROM not the processor power.
Actually, the ripping went pretty fast. Its the encoding that's taking a while (about 25-30 minutes for each 12 minute episode). I'm making them 50MB files with 112kbps mp3 audio. They look great, and don't notice much difference if I used 100 MB files.
