My only departure from Apple is the Mi Box I use in Indonesia for my Samsung TV.
Of course I use the Google Play Store for my software and yesterday I was motivated to instal a web browser.
I use a VPN to access Australian TV content via subscribed free live streaming apps like the Australian ABC Networks iView app.
I wanted to be able to access a Fox Sports app available to Australians living overseas called Watch AFL (Aussie Rules Football). You have to be overseas to use it so of course I had my VPN off.
The problem was the Google Play Store stated the app was unavailable for my Mi Box. I tried a couple of ideas but all to no avail so I thought I'd just use a web browser as the same service is available from the web site for PC or in my case MBP.
This is where the puzzle deepens. I had never bothered to instal a web browser on the Mi Box before but I just assumed I could instal the Android version of Firefox or Opera ect but no! I got the same response for those apps as well. "This app is unavailable for your device." or words to that effect.
So, I started searching, surely there is a simple, free web browser available for Mi Box, I thought. There was one pre installed but I'd removed it years ago because it was awful and I never used it.
Turns out most half decent browsers were by subscription and I didn't like the UI of most of them until I tried the simply named "Browser".
Not only free but a simple easy to use UI with a free iOS remote app, if you want it but, you can use your remote just as easily. Rated at 4.6 stars it works for my purpose of watching Fox Watch AFL really well.
I am completely puzzled why apps which I have easily loaded onto an Android phone in the past here are unavailable for the Mi Box. I'd always thought of it as a glorified Android phone but perhaps it's the lack of a SIM card and thereby the identification needed for that that makes the difference?
Any thoughts?
