Yeah, I know it's MACrumors, but please help a brother out.
My wife is the sole holdout in the house with an XP machine. She's been operating with an iTunes program from the 7 series for a while. We need to upgrade to the new one so she can transfer files from iTunes to her phone, upgrade to 4.0, etc.
Problem: XP won't let this computer upgrade to the new version. I tried downloading the latest version...the upgrade stopped and said it couldn't delete the current version. I manually deleted iTunes with the "Add/Remove" function in Control Panel. Then I tried to open the latest version of iTunes, and it failed, with an error message that said the earlier version was still there (as far as I can tell, it ain't).
Any ideas? And please, no Windows gags....my wife isn't ready to switch, but because she has an iPhone, we have to get iTunes working.
