I purchased an iPhone XR on Amazon (UK) Prime Day. It hasn't shipped yet and I am having second thoughts.

The discounts Amazon UK offered were amazing, especially when combined with all the free credit promos they had. Although the XR will be discounted in September, going by past price drops, it seemed unlikely the price drop will be as low as Prime Day. Plus the pound is falling due to Brexit and the last time that happened in 2016, Apple raised the prices of their new iPhone release which lowered how much the older phones were discounted.

The main source of my hesitation is the RAM in iPhone XR. I keep my phones for a long time and plan to use the XR for at least 5-7 years. I am just concerned that in the future I might be kicking myself for getting a 3GB RAM phone and not waiting for the iPhone 11 XR which is rumoured to have 4GB of RAM.

Then again, the XR fits in my budget. If I wait for the 11XR I might be waiting for another year and hoping it gets discounted like in Prime Day until I can get one. Plus I mostly use my phone for web, email, podcasts, note-taking and spreadsheets, which aren't RAM intensive.

My current phone is an Android from 2013, so I know I will find the XR amazing. It's just the future years that concern me.

Any thoughts? Should I keep my purchase or cancel it before it ships?

There will always be better tech coming September. By delaying your purchase simply because of this is a silly action to say the least. You have calculated that even with price drop, XR wont be as cheap as you get on Prime Day, so it is already a nice investment to begin with.
As for the rumours, if 4GB RAM is real, it would be nice to have. But 3GB is still plenty depending on what you want to use, though I bet you won’t process 8K video on your iPhone right? ;) With that in mind, 3GB vs 4GB does not matter too much for most people, even for some super heavy Safari use.
You also mention you will probably wait for Prime Day if XR is released, which is well another year ahead. Such wait is completely unnecessary for you, given that you wont enjoy XR today (or within 2 weeks).
In summary, my thought is to keep the order and wait to enjoy your new iPhone XR. Don’t worry about next 11R.

Given the significant new features (4GB, dual lens) with 11R, the price of XR should drop quite a bit after September.

To give you an idea of worldwide pricing, the XR sells for US$650 (£530) in China, before 13% VAT. This is regular, everyday pricing from the largest electronics retailer.

If you need a phone today, then get the XR. But I seriously doubt Prime Day pricing will be the 2019 low for the XR.
