(A disclaimer: the following regards a very nuanced and arguably totally irrelevant 'issue' that some have noticed with the XR. I'm posting only for info purposes for those that are interested - I suspect many won't be interested!)

Hello! I was one of the first people posting on this forum about their shiny new X. Mac Rumours ended up quoting my forum post on colour shift on the front page, namely that my XR did display the 'pink shift' noted in the Verge's review of the XR (i.e. the screen gets pinker when tilted at a viewing angle). My model did have it but it was not that noticeable.

Today, I went into the Apple store and I thought I would compare my model with those on display. There were many, many XR's on display, at least 8. I did a side by side comparison of my phone and all of the others. My observations:

(i) All the models did it to some degree.
(ii) All the models colour shifted 'pink' rather than blue or green.
(ii) My girlfriend's iPhone 7 didn't do it at all.
(iii) The differences were all slight but there were about 4 degrees of colour shifting (as in, one phone was the best, one group of phones was slightly worse etc. My handset was the worst out of all of them, if I was to split hairs.

I was actually a little disappointed that my handset (which incidentally was a 128gb black model) was the worst in this regard and I therefore requested a replacement. Apple were happy to oblige. How lovely!

Before I left the shop, I did then make a point of inspecting the XS and XS Max models and came to a very firm conclusion: the colour shifting on the XR is nowhere near as bad on the XS models. Those all shifted blue rather than pink, which is arguably a more pleasing colour, but the shift was way more dramatic, to the point I felt borderline silly with making the replacement.

I took my new model out of the box when home and the colour shift is, I think, mildly better than before but perhaps it is the same; either way it's definitely not worse.

My final observation: the pink shift on the new model and the old model is more pronounced when tilting the phone to the left. It is less pink when tilting the model to the right. My girlfriend agrees. I wonder why that is? Curious!

TLDR: there is some very slight variance between XR models (which show pink shift) but nowhere near as apparent as the XS models (which show blue shift). You're better off not worrying about all of this and enjoying your damn phone! :p

@thadoggfather - thought you might be interested in this.
