I can’t take credit for my own thoughts anymore because maybe I read this somewhere in the hundreds of MR threads I’ve recently, but I just had an epiphany...

This didn’t happen today, but maybe in a parallel universe somewhere:

I totally see myself walking into the Apple store with money to get the new XS or XSM. So I walk in to the table with the beautiful chrome and gold beauties, then walk over to check out the new XR, walk back to the XSM, then back to the XR, then back to the XSM and then to the Apple Watch table. Then I’d think to myself, how much storage costs what, and how much screen I want, and wait... this XR is priced pretty darn good!
Then I say to the beautiful Apple Store Employee girl “now wait, I could get the XSM for $1250 or get the XR and Apple Watch for the same price?” And then I’d walk out of the store with a new XR and Apple Watch.

The XS and XSM are the best phones on the market, no doubt about that. But for the same price I’ll take a new XR and a new series 4 Watch any day, and twice on Sunday.

Dang it Apple. I wanted to save that $450 but I might just spend it on a watch.

Have fun with your new phones (and watches).

I had a somewhat related thought, that the XR and XS Max will result in more people paying for cellular service on their Apple Watches so that they don't have to constantly have their large phones with them. Runners especially.

I was thinking the same thing. Difference between the 128 Xr and the 256 Xs, which are the two configurations I'm considering, is basically an Apple Watch (especially if I trade in my S3).
