Upgrading a family members phone and they have a choice between a XS Max or the iPhone 11 (R). It's hard to have a fully educated answer since the event is still a couple weeks away, but with the rumors we have what would be your recommendation? Below are some advantages each phone has that I could think of. Thanks

XS Max:
- OLED Display
- Larger Screen

iPhone 11 (R):
- Latest Chip
- Battery Life

The difficulty with threads like this are:
- no budget mentioned
- no mention on how long planning to keep the phones
- no mention of what the person values in their phones
- unless you found a deal, why use an XS Max in your comparison when a new version is weeks away and could be same price point.

It’s impossible to recommend when a) we don’t know all of the details of the coming phones and b) we’re given zero details about the purchasers financial abilities, phone wants, and needs.

Yeah, no way to know until they’re announced as well as not knowing your needs and wants. I did try both the XS Max and the XR last year, and I preferred the Max, but there are plenty of others who did the same and preferred the XR. (shrug)

the 11R will get the new processor, probably some night-sight and main-camera improvements (iPhone is lacking in this area vs. Android), better speakers, longer battery life. It will probably display the same amount of content on the screen as the 11max (sort of XR vs XS MAX).

I’m thinking of getting the 11 Max but it will depend on battery life

If applicable in your situation, it’s best to wait with the keynote arriving shortly. And by that time, you’ll have a definitive answer of what device meets your budget/list of specifications. It’s the easier and most logical thing to do being this close to the keynote.
