I run CandyEveryday.com, on a shared server from "Canaca". I've found that it can be a little slow to load at times. Today they actually took the site offline to thin out how many sites were on the server.

What is the fastest web hosting company. Are there any hosting companies using the new Xserve g5?

Fastest is all relative, and will depend on what you are paying for (shared vs. dedicated vs. co-located). I assume you are asking for fast shared plans, so I will be the first to recommend either Fat Cow and STP

Neither use XServes.

Personally, I would not worry about what hardware a hosting company is using, if they give you little downtime and the environment you need.

I don't know of any hosting companies running xserves.. I guess building a linux box is slightly more cost effective. I've had great luck with http://asmallorange.com lately, on edesignuk's recommendation.

Their deals look nice, but the higher end deals are only okay. You get tons of web space but not enough bandwidth.

I've been happy with iPowerWeb, it seems like it's been pretty fast.

The top 30-50 hosting companies tend to be so reliable and fast it's pretty hard to distinguish between them on those two things alone.

Pair Networks is a place i've used before and is really good. They're at #2 just now but the list varies so much it is fairly random when you get into the higher ones.

These days speed is partially dependent on server location vs visitor location, hence the popularity of companies like Akamai for high-end sites.

Down again

This site is down again today. I just signed up for a Fat Cow account (thanks kingjr3), and I've already changed my DNS settings. Stay away from Canaca!
