I am.. how do we say....more interested in iBook updates!

Wouldn't they bring in more cash for the short term?

Well, not exactally... I mean buisness's want the Xserve. If apple updates maybe they will rack in Trillions. Mwhahahaha.

Okay maybe 25% more than last time.

Sadly, after running xbench (available for download at apple.com) on a brand new iBook 800 (640MB ram) and a 12" PB 867 (256MB ram) I think that the iBook will only see a price drop in the near future. If they make it any faster, it will be faster than the PB 12" for most tasks.

iBook - 52+

PB 12" - 50+

I would have assumed that the extra RAM in the iBook would not have been enough to compensate for the G4. But I was wrong. That is pretty sad :(

As for the heat issue, they seemed to run at approx the same temp.

I know this is getting off the XServe subject, but my girlfriend got her 12" PowerBook last week, and it is so much snappier in the Finder than the 700Mhz iBook i've used and the eMac I'm currently using.
I'm really hanging out for my 17" PB :p

As for the XServe, we'll be looking at one or more of them for a file/print server quite soon - the XRaid is something we've been waiting for.

Apparently XBench doesn't do much with the vector unit (or tax the ram much). The 12" Powerbook is clearly superior (DDR, 133MHz bus, XPC7455, etc...) and should show up as significantly faster. Looking at the individual test results could show us where the PB is doing badly.
