On my PC, I could import Xvid/DivX encoded files just fine into Premiere Pro CS3. (even .vob files)

Now on my MBP, I haven't been able to import any kind of avi file that is encoded with Xvid. I get the same error message of "unsupported compression format". I'm not sure why, I had both codecs installed.

I followed the steps listed here to install Xvid on my Mac.

xvidmovies.com/mac

(I copied the xvid component into the Quicktime library. Videos play back fine outside Premiere but no luck importing them into it.)

Did I install it correctly? Or is there another installation directory that would enable xvid or divx and even .vob file videos in Premiere Pro CS3?

Xvid/Divx encoded videos are meant for distribution, and not editing.

Why Premiere doesn't import it in Mac OS while it does so in Windows, I can't say. Maybe you have to convert them first to an editable format.

But you could try the Digital Video forum for this. There might be more answers than the one I gave.
