My 1 year warranty expires soon, and I'm starting to look at Applecare.

I found Applecare on eBay for $166, and the seller said he doesn't ship anything, just emails the enrollment code. This seemed a little on the "scam" side, but he has sold TONS of Applecare warranties. So, good deal?

Check out LA computing online. In general, they have the cheapest AppleCare pricing. I would not do eBay.

Thank you very much for telling me that.

Should I try to get a better deal off of eBay and see if I can buy Applecare with the box, or would there still be risk? Should I just buy directly from Apple/Apple retailer?

There will always be a risk with eBay.

Now you have to make sure that the AppleCare is purchased in the country you intend to register it at.

furthermore... always get the box with a serial number on the outside. There are counterfeit AppleCare boxes out there.

I decided I'll just buy it right from Apple. I can get an educational discount, so it is only $239 from Apple.

That is what I did. I'd MUCH MUCH rather pay $80 more, and get a legit copy. click on the link in my signature to see how the resellers get it for cheap, and how they rip people off. No sealed box = hacked code!

I agree.
