OK, so Ubuntu 6.10 was released on Thursday and to my disappointment, they've left out the 2.6.18 kernel which gives the much needed thermal support for G5 based computers. So why don't you download and recompile the 2.6.18 kernel yourself you ask? Because that's not what Ubuntu is supposed to be about. May as well just build my own distro from scratch if I'm going to go down that road.

However, having checked out the Fedora Core site, I see that Yellow Dog have also released YDL5.0, which does contain the 2.6.18 kernel. Has anyone actually installed this on G5 hardware yet? If so, what's the verdict?

I really like linux for webservers, file servers, stuff like that.. but could never get into it for a day to day OS.
