I have been using my iphone5 frequently throughout the day and all of a sudden I noticed a yellow line down the centre of my screen. It happened when I downloaded a new game so I thought it was a paper of the game graphics as it wasn't there before. Any ideas on what it is/ how to fix it would be great. I haven't dropped it today even though it looks like I did

Really annoying u can barely see it but its there quite bright and right down the centre perfectly in the middle

It's very subtle but I see it. Try a hard reset (hold top and home button) until the phone reboots. Have you also tried a factory restore? If these suggestions don't work, you should make a genius appointment at nearest Apple store.

If I factory reset will I lose my pic vids messages etc?

Not if you do a complete backup of your iPhone :)

Ps: not sure the factory restore will help you much, doesn't look like a software issue, I would bet on a hardware problem, in which case your only possibility is bringing back to the Apple Store to get it fixed/replaced (most likely)
