Dear all

After being a very happy macbook pro owner – 2010, I have recently got a annoying issue on where my screen in 50% of the time got a yellow line :mad:across the screen. This issue tent to happen frequently after sleeping mode. I have been searching for answer and advice overall on the internet incl. this forum without luck. Therefore I will be very pleased if some of you have any idea how to fix this matter.

My warranty is expired, and I do not have any apple care. I plan to re install the OSX, just to see if this will help. I hope this is more related to software rather then hardware.

Thanks guys :apple:

Have you tried playing with a corner of the laptop (closing it with only the left/right corner of the laptop, and looking at the screen while its closing and opening see if that affects the line[either getting worse for a second or disappearing)]... if something happened its hardware related and not software. This happened to a netbook I owned a couple years ago, ended up having to get the screen completely fixed.

If this is hardware related, do some of you have any idea how much it will cost to fix this issue ?

Try to make screenshot in OS, rather than camera shot. Is it there same yellow line on screenshot as well? I think on screenshot there will be no any yellow line and this will (can) mean that it is a hardware issue.

Hey

screen shot no lines.... maybe we are talking about hardware issue here...

Any idea how much to fix this issue ?

its a dead or stuck pixel. Take it to apple to get it fixed. if you dont have apple care you mitht need to pay money or even upgrade your computer.

If the screen shot doesn't provide any lines, then it's 99.9% a screen problem. It happened to be in my DELL screen before, and there is nothing to do about it - It would cost you more to fix it than to buy a new machine (you need to change the screen).

Do you get this line when you turn the laptop on? on the grey screen with the Apple logo?

If you get it on that screen, you have a hardware defect. If that line appears only when you get into OS X, most probably software related, could get solved with a re-install of the OS.

If the line doesn't show up on the screenshot, it is most likely the graphics card, if it does it's the screen. It's that easy.

Other way around.

If it DOES show up on the screenshot, it's either software or the graphics card.

If it doesn't, it's the LCD panel itself.

If moving the panel changes things, it's the panel.

And, every machine I've seen with an intermittent vertical line like that has needed a panel repair (usually completely impractical due to the difficulty) or replacement. Annoyingly, my ThinkPad's started doing that the Thursday before the WWDC keynote - at least it chose the right time to fail, right before its replacement was announced. :D

LCD Panel fixed

Dear all

I want to give you guys a update.

Since I am located in China - Xiamen, I have found a small mac repair center run by some ex Foxconn engineer.

They have replace a piece of LCD panel for 1200 RMB around 200 dollars :)

It is working now, and will test it during the night.

I took the chance and went to this doggy place, and it seems to work well. The guys clam this panel is from the assembly line....

Happy happy

Congrats!
I had a similar issue with my early 2011 machine, even though it was much worse. All black colors went vibrant red after waking from sleep. So I took it in the Apple Store and luckily my machine was still in my first year of Apple Care and they replaced the AG screen free of charge.
The genius said this happens sometimes and is a sign of a not properly assembled display.
It would have cost me 450€ I believe, so you got a good deal. =)
