I just sold my MB Pro (2016) and am buying the Macbook 2017. I know, crazy.
I had the 2015 Macbook before and thought I should get the more powerful MB Pro last year, but I really miss the size and weight of the MB. It is simply perfect! MB Pro is obviously more powerful, but for my needs the MB is plenty. I am not a programmer or gamer, etc. I love the form factor on the MB. It's so small and light. The last time I had the MB I fought the need to buy a dongle, but will purchase one the same day.
Anyone else crazy like me?

No it's fine :)

It's not till you have a rMB and realise more often than not you have been over spec'ing for years.

With such a low % of real pros using macs where time = money a few extra seconds here and their for many on which is just a hobby for the majority is more bragging rights than actual need

Additionally due to the extra portability of the rMB I think you actually get more use and ultimately better value

Enjoy :)

The rMB is one of the most beautiful pieces of engineering I’ve ever seen. It’s the most aesthetically pleasing device Apple makes in my view.

For me, the screen size is too small, but if I had more money I’d buy one immediately.

The MacBook Pro is not an attractive object in the same way. And it’s vastly overpowered for my needs. And, I suspect, many people’s needs.

I now survive on an iMac and an iPad Pro with Smart Keyboard. I’d love an rMB but there’s too much overlap with the iPad in terms of what I’d use them for.

Lucky you! Great purchase. Sensible choice.

Owning a MacBook isn't crazy if it works for your usage case. And there are millions of people like you out there.

Sorry to say that your situation is undramatic and not noteworthy.

But enjoy your new MacBook. I like mine too.

Nothing wrong with it, went for the MBP in the end but I would have been totally happy with the rMB too.

I love my rMB (2015) and I also have a rMBP (2012) and will replace both of them with the next gen of the rMB. The size of the computer is fantastic and even if some tasks take longer time to render it works for my job situation. I hope they will put in a 1TB ssd in the next gen, that way I dont need to take an external drive with me when I travel.

I use my computers for webproduction (videoediting, images, programming, writing) and I do not have any time pressure so for me if rendering a video takes a little more time I use that time to my self. When videos render I go out for a run, yoga, cook dinner, be with the kids or something else that make me relax and in that way be more productive when I work.

Can i ask do you edit your videos on the 12” MacBook? If so how is it to edit on that device? There isn’t an option to add Final Cut X when ordering the 12” MacBook like there is for the MacBook Pro either.

Today I use the MBP for videoediting but have used the Macbook for some simple projects (1080). I do most simple straight cuts that will not put much strain on the computer and that is perfect for me. I know that the rMB 2017 is better for it but I will wait to the next gen until I switch completely. I edit with Final Cut and it works great with the software.

The simplest way to buy the software is on the Mac App Store on your computer. If you are a student you can buy it in a bundle for only $200 with all Apples pro software in the bundle (Final cut, logic X, motion, compressor and so on).

When editing video on the Macbook, do not expect a speed monster like a Macbook pro or a iMac. If I was on a time budget I would buy a faster machine but I am not on it so I enjoy and value the size and weight more then the speed.

I was deciding between the pro and MacBook a year ago. The touch bar, slightly bigger screen, and more ports were appealing but they weren't deal breakers . Like you I don't edit photos, videos, etc.. I just browse the web and what not so this seemed like the perfect choice.

I also bought from Best Buy certified refurbished with 9 charge cycles and saved about $300. It's been a dream and works along my next iPhone X very well.
