I don't usually take part with the mass "This or That?" threads that usually take place after an new release, but I have been planning to buy a new laptop for a while now. Originally, my plans are to wait for the Merom to appear in the MacBook Pro's.

But as I thought a bit about this, I don't really game on my computer. Yes, it might be because of my Mac mini's subpar gaming performance, but I admit I don't miss computer gaming all that much, having the game consoles take over my gaming time. I do have a vague notion of playing World of Warcraft, but I'm not sure if I will ever actually play it, with the month fees and all.

Really, the only games I play on the computer are mainly Blizzard games, because they're so great, and they never show up in console form. So that gives you an idea of what I want out of games on the Mac - not much.

My only real complaint about the Mac mini is it's performance with video. I can edit video on this thing, but it's a little slow, and it sometimes drops frames. I mainly use Final Cut Express, and sometimes iMovie when I'm lazy. And it's inability to perform with HD video. And I'd really like me some FrontRow (with remote!).

So what I need your thoughts on are, will the MacBooks perform well on what I listed above (mainly video)? And should I consider buying the MacBook now, or wait for Merom to arrive, or wait for the second revision of the MacBooks (as vague as "revisions" might be under the current update system)? (Yes, I've given a thought to the iMac, but I don't really like the all-in-one form factor of the iMacs, and I'd like some portability. The Mac mini is... too similar to the one I already have :D)
