the whole UI is getting obnoxiously bigger , as if it were a tablet . maybe it's meant to introduce a touch capacitive mac, but it's honestly so dumb.

sequoia menu bar is 25px . tahoe is 31px. (I measured it)

That's 25% taller for NO reason . It serves no purpose. The menu bar text isn't any bigger. It's just lazy

there's also padding with the rounded corners.

please people send feedback to apple if you're one a notchless mac

Yeah, I noticed that weeks ago on my VM of Tahoe. Could easily tell by having the VM as a full-screen app on Sequoia and just holding the "swipe between spaces" gesture where I could see both desktops. It is really quite annoying that Tahoe takes up more space with GUI unnecessarily. Even on my Mac mini with large displays. But I've grown resigned to this, and plan to upgrade after the public release, just a few days after instead of day-of like I used to do.

I'd say reporting it via feedback to apple is a more sensible approach but you do you

Apple have gradually increased the menu bar height over the years. Why? Who knows?

Presumably, they are just standardizing the menubar to the same height as the notched laptops. My M1 MBP has always had a 31px menubar.
you're right, and thats horribly lazy. imagine giving the same menu bar to very different devices.

although actually I think the menu bar is now smaller on mbp m1 in tahoe ...so that's even lazier

The menubar already exceeds the notch (by a few pixels, by eye) on my 15" MacBook Air with the default resolution set, so they've made it taller? Some are saying they resized it to be aligned with the notch, so wouldn't that mean that they made is shorter? Sorry if I am confusing this with something else.

Menu bar on notch Macs was X pixels and X-10 on notch less Macs

Now it's X-5 on both notch and notchless . Basically a big **** you to notchless users

Live activities from a nearby iPhone will show up in the Mac's menu bar in macOS 26. Perhaps that's another reason why they expanded it so it can display more content. Now that I say that, maybe this is Apple getting ready for a pill / Dynamic Island that has been rumored to be coming out next year. I could see the pill being centered in the bar with a few pixels above and below it.
