I referenced THIS thread but it didn't help.

My issue is with a Panasonic HDC-TM700 camera that the video was recorded in 1080/60p. I can see it on the camera, play it on my TV via cables but cannot upload it to my Macbook. I tried through Finder, iPhoto and iMove. Please help, I have a project due. :(

Read both of your threads. Let go back to grass roots.
When you open iMovie those your Panasonic recognises iMovie?
What cable are you using to import Firewire or USB?
It may play on other devices as you suggested.
My post may not be the answer but it is worth a try.;)

According to the Panasonic site....
HD Writer AE 4.1 is not available for Mac. iMovie'11 supported. For details about iMovie'11, please contact Apple Inc. iMovie'11 is not compatible with 1080/60p. 1080/60p scenes cannot be imported to a Mac.

suggestions for software that can be used to pull it up on a Mac?

Can you access any of the video files? Try converting them to Apple ProRes 422 if you can manage to drag and drop the files into a converting application like Compressor, Handbrake, MPEG Streamclip.

Okay, is OP using iMovie? Let us know first. It says you tried importing using iMovie, but do you plan on using that application to make this project? Doesn't really say. If that's the case you'll need to convert to AIC Apple Intermediate Codec.

That is what I gathered from the OP, thus the links I provided to one guide and one tool to help. It seems not being working for the OP though, as s/he did not respond to that solution. We'll see. Probably a dead thread anyway.
