Yosemite Messages.app font line spacing problem

Hey all, wasn't able to find anything on this, but have you noticed the line spacing in Messages?
The lines actually touch.
It's the same on my mac pro hooked up to a 30" ACD and my mid 2014 retina macbook pro.
Is this for real? Or am I missing something???

I resolved this issue by removing the Helvetica Neue font family from my user Library and then restarting in safe mode (hold shift during startup) to clear the fonts cache. I also zapped the pram just for good measure. But the "lcd font smoothing" option still sucks haha
