Yosemite smoother ?

Anyway to make Yosemite smoother ? I'm running it on a macBook retina 2012 and i get the beach ball quite a lot , I've already turned off translucency but is there anything else to make it smoother ?

When I need the speed I turn down to 1440x900 non HiDPI mode using RDM.

What's RMD?

It's a little menu shortcut created by Paul Griffin (www.phoenix-dev.com) to switch to every display resolution possible, including non-retina and rMBP's 2880x1800 native display size. I don't see him listed on his site though..
