So I tried to run the Yosemite update the other day and after about 3 hours saw the progress bar hadn't moved at all. Now on restart my mac boots into the installer and after about 2-3 hours of the bar moving says the OS cannot be installed.
I tried booting into the recovery partition to both restore from a time machine backup and to attempt a fresh install but from the recovery menu the volume containing OSX won't mount or repair so I cannot restore from backup or do a fresh install. Strangely enough my bootcamp partition is not only fine but with macdrive installed I can access the files from the OSX partition although as expected the macdrive option to format the partition doesn't work.
Anybody have any suggestions before i resort to digging out my old snow leopard disk and wiping the whole drive including the bootcamp partition and doing everything from scratch?
