Scenario: Let's imagine you have laptop (rmbp 15 2012, rmb 2015, doesn't matter) running Yosemite connected to wifi. You want to connect it _from some other machine_ using e.g. ssh/ping.

Outcome is simply horribly bad:

ping results:
64 bytes from 192.168.42.14: icmp_seq=273 ttl=64 time=1.322 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.42.14: icmp_seq=274 ttl=64 time=1.442 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.42.14: icmp_seq=275 ttl=64 time=760.186 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.42.14: icmp_seq=276 ttl=64 time=762.481 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.42.14: icmp_seq=277 ttl=64 time=763.704 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.42.14: icmp_seq=278 ttl=64 time=764.308 ms
(sometimes it is also much worse; oddly enough consistent 'for awhile' and sometimes dropping off altogether. and yes, machines + wifi basestation are literally next to each other and full signal strength etc.)

mdns sometimes working, sometimes not.

I originally assumed this to be my 2012 rmbp giving up the ghost, but apparently it is just Yosemite being 'good' in yet another way.. *sigh*
