I performed an install of Yosemite on my Mac book Pro and it looked like all went well but when I looked at "About this Mac" it says I am using version 10.9.5. Isn't Yosemite 10.10.5?

No need to look at "About this mac": if your UI still looks like 10.9.x then something obviously isn't right.;) Try reinstalling Yosemite.
