dont know if this was talked about before, but here it is.

activate exposé
then cmd-tab
then choose the application of the document you are looking for. this will bring every documents of that application to front, (and highlighted of course), and everything else is dimmed. from there you can, again, easily choose the document you were looking for.

if you frequently work on many documents from many applications at the same time like i do, i think you'll appreciate this trick.
 
Easier way — press F10 then just tab on it's own.

Obviously substitute in F10 for whatever you have configured for application windows.
