Hi everyone!

Yes I’m talking about mics on iPad pro here.

I found out that my iPad pro might have some issues with the mic but I’m not 100% sure. You can easily help me out here so please take few minutes to help. Thanks a lot.

Here is the thing. iPad pro (2018 face ID model, 11 inch) has 5 mics, one at the back below the camera, one at the left frame edge, two at the top edge, and one at the front close to face ID camera.

One day I made a facetime call with my friend and he told me my voice is fuzzy and ‘sound like from a distance’. When I plugged my earphone the problem solved immediately.

So I assume that perhaps one of my mic has some issues. I did some test.

First I recorded my voice using apple’s voice recorder app.

When I covered all the mics (except the one below the rear facing camera) with my palms, my voice cannot be recorded clearly (not surprising).

Then I tried to release them one by one. I found out there is no difference whether I cover the mic at the front panel or not.

Say, if I cover all of them but leave one of any mics on the edge uncovered, my voice could still be picked up clearly, but if I covered all but the one on the front panel, the recorded volume is so low (feels the same as covering them all) , like that mic was not even there. I tried to make my voice as same degree as possible while recording.

So would you please kindly do the test and tell me the results you get? Just open the voice recorder app, cover all edge mics then record your voice, to compare if there are any difference between that the front mic is covered/uncovered?

Thanks a lot.
