Verizon this week announced the launch of a new Test Drive program that is designed to allow you to try the Verizon network for free over a 30-day period.

Any U.S. smartphone user with an eSIM and unlocked device can get 100GB of 4G/5G data to test out the Verizon network before committing to switching to the carrier. Verizon's program is similar to the Network Pass option offered by T-Mobile, though it doesn't last as long.

In addition to 100GB of data, Verizon's test program includes unlimited talk and text, and the service can be used alongside an existing cellular subscription. 4K streaming quality is available over 5G Ultra Wideband, while streaming is limited to 480p on LTE and 5G Nationwide.

Those who want to try Verizon can scan the QR code on the Test Drive FAQ page to download the My Verizon app to get access to the free trial. As mentioned above, an unlocked, eSIM-capable smartphone is required, and testers cannot be existing Verizon subscribers. eSIM compatible iPhones include the iPhone XR and later.

After the Test Drive, Verizon offers a streamlined process for porting a number over and choosing a 5G plan. For those who opt not to continue with the service, the trial simply ends when the 30-day period has expired, with no need to cancel as no credit card is required.

Now if only they could fix their billing. Now don’t get me wrong, I am the biggest Verizon fan you can ever find. But sometimes even the best makes mistakes. I have two lines of service and I use all of the extra features like no paper bills and auto pay with a debit card. It’s the debit cards that have become the problem. I noticed several months ago that my bill had gone up around 50 dollars per month for what I could tell was no reason. After a while I found out that they were no longer giving me my discount for the auto pay. I spent a good amount of time on the phone with them and no one could explain why it was happening. After a day had passed I received a call saying that Verizon had changed their policy and no Mastercard or Visa card is given the discount even if it is a debit card as was required before. It took me about one minute to get what this is about. Verizon has their own card now and they seem to make you get it if you want the discount.
I have only been told this by one employee so I need to check in with someone else. But if true, that is a very bad thing.

Cricket has a test drive program as well. You get 14 days of unlimited talk and text and 3GB 🤣 of data

Nice to see other carriers copying T-Mobile again. This is an attempt by Verizon to try to grow their low subscriber add numbers to T-Mobile levels

Yup can confirm, this happened to me. Had to link Verizon directly to checking, cheap-os want to save on credit card fees I imagine. I love Verizon’s coverage and network performance, but boy do I hate Verizon the company.

Funny, it was T-Mobile's Test Drive (30 days) and subsequent Network Pass (3 months) that got me to switch from Verizon. I gave up my 50% off VZ employee discount because of how much better T-Mobile's service is on the west side of Cleveland. My family and I can now use our phones, and the International service on Magenta Max is soo much better than the ridiculous $10/day TravelPass (employee discount didn't apply to this for some reason).

I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile three months ago. I got tired of dealing with their price increases. They added a $12 charge on to all people who didn't have unlimited plans and that was the thing that got me to finally switch. I had been with them 10 years. T-Mobile's service is SO much better where I am than Verizon ever was. Verizon's towers were routinely overloaded to the point that it was impossible to connect. T-Mobile has been great, once I got past how badly they tried to bungle my switch over and how they almost gave away my phone number. And I am paying $50 less, even after giving up my 20% employee discount.

I just switched our family as well (from VZW to T-Mobile). I mainly did it due to T-Mobile's "Keep and Switch" promotion. Two of our Verizon lines still had balances, and the Keep and Switch promotion pays them off, no strings attached. So even if I'm unhappy with the service after a couple of months (which I don't think I'll be unhappy, as I did the "test drive" before doing this), I'll have all of my devices paid off and can go wherever I want at that point. I was also able to get a rep that used an "insider code" to get their Magenta Max plan at an extremely reasonable price for the service/perks.

I mainly did it due to T-Mobile's "Keep and Switch" promotion.

We got a lot of great promos toward devices. I liked that all of these were available to new and existing customers, so I can expect other deals in the future.

iPhone 11 Pro trade in $1000 toward iPhone 14 Pro
iPhone XS trade in $800 toward iPhone 14 Pro
iPhone XS trade in $800 toward iPhone 14 Pro
iPhone 12 mini 256GB - $250 after promotions, they were clearing old inventory. They didn't want iPhone 6S as a trade, so this one we bought outright for only $250!! They were selling 64/128/256 capacities all the same price inexplicably.

Also, I got a $200 promo for each new line on magenta max by entering promo code 2022SWITCHP8 on website https://promotions.t-mobile.com/ for each line I moved over. And the $200 normally comes as a pre-paid visa card, but on the visa card website was option to deposit into checking account.

Plus my wife is a Navy Vet, the military discount is pretty sweet - we're paying $32 per line for Magenta Max https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans/military-discount-plans

Oh, and the free netflix and free apple tv+ :)

Even apple watch is cheaper - they have a $5 monthly add on plan for it!

Verizon changed the employee deal for my company - I had been getting 50% off unlimited for me, wife, & mom. After the change, ZERO discount on unlimited; only a discount for me personally on certain garbage limited plans & nothing for wife & mom. So we switched to T-Mobile yesterday. It’s working great so far! WAY better coverage & speed where I live (NW Arkansas).

What I meant was, I was getting 50% off Verizon Wireless service for being a Verizon employee :) I didn't think the corporate discounts given to other companies' employees went that high. But not worth the discount when the service is poor in my area. I did get two network extenders from Verizon when I'd report the issues, but that was it.

Yeah, we got the full 50% also even though I work for a different company (we have a close relationship with all the carriers). It was great while it lasted, I probably used it for 6 or 7 years.

I used a similar “no risk trial” from T-mobile 10 months ago and I’m still fighting to have my final $500 returned. Be careful who you give your cc info to, because they don’t like to give money back

it looks like they want a withdrawal from a checking account transfer. this is the way I always had mine set up, for years, and I was gonna set it up to use a card but found that is not allowed. don't know when it changed but it was a quiet change a while ago. don't think it tied in directly to their card but who knows...
