ok everyone has a preference about their case, here's an alternative, please go easy on me...

i'v been using this 3m anti slip tape on my computer mouse. it gives a great texture anywhere the hand is physically touching. here's a picture. it's marketed as shower floor's safety tape. you can search it with its amazon code "B000KKRJAY"

I was looking at something similar for the back of my iPhone X since that bugger was mighty slippery. This doesnt look nice, but it creates the resistance you need to not drop it.

I’ve thought of doing this. Main reason I use cases is grip. I use this tape on firearms and it is great.

yeah i wont say it looks cool, but it looks much more blended-in irl, under normal lighting.
