But there's a catch: you have to keep it for the next five years – can't sell or donate it until then. Which one would you choose?

That's a no brainer...

Same reply as marzer. There's no display, keyboard or battery to go wrong, it's not portable so the chances of damaging it are extremely limited. That means I would probably keep using it until at least 2035 or even 2040.

And before you think that's impossible, keep in mind that I'm posting this from my mid-2010 Mac mini.

edit: and then five years later, since it's a beast of a Mac with maxed out upgrades, I sell it and buy whatever base model of Mac mini is available at that time and still have a load of money left.

Mac Pro! (Will it come with wheels?)
Where do I send my bank details & my mother's maiden name? :)

I'd love a Mac that could take tons of internal storage & couple of extra USB 3 controller cards... but not enough love to pay $7000 for it. Plus, I would be entirely unsurprised if there's no further Mac Pro update.

Is five years really a challenge for any current Apple product? My M1 MacBook Air is as good as it was when I first got it.
I agree. Computers don't increase in computing power like they used to do in the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's.

Still posted from my 2010 Mac mini.

Studio Display. I tend to keep my displays until they stop working. I still use my first FHD monitor from 15 years ago, although it's used as an auxiliary display now.

Along your line of thinking - I'd get the XDR. I keep displays a long time.

A maxed out Mac is tempting, but I'd never actually make use of all that power. The XDR however I'd appreciate every day.
