Bringing out the 4s only with just a spec bump will not look good IMO. You know he thinks he has alot to prove after taking over from Jobs. Surely there has to be hope that he will announce the 5 and not just an iphone 4 with a spec upgrade.

COME ON COOK MAKE A STATEMENT!

The next iPhone has been in development for the past 18-24 months, Tim Cook has been Apple's CEO for just a little over a month.

Whatever ends up getting announced today will have had little influence by Tim and a lot influence by Steve, so will the next iPhone. Tim Cook's time to shine will be with Apple's 7th generation iPhone.

Exactly my thoughts.

It will still be Cook's neck on the line here and it will still be him in charge for this event wether he had full control or not it will look bad on him if there is no iphone 5.

terrible OP. iPhone 5=SJ. Next Gen=SJ/TC, Gen 7=TC.

First day on the job...
"Goodmorning everyone, Brian, go ahead and tell Foxconn to **** themselves, I am not risking my name for that horrid POS."

"Sally... send an improved iPhone 4 with an A5 and a 8MP camera to the drawing boards!"

no. simply no.

Really? Tim Cook's neck is on the line? I guess that's why Apple's board gave him hundreds of millions of dollars in stock that vests in 10 years. In case you don't know what this means, it's that Apple is saying please work for us for at least 10 years and we'll make you filthy rich(er).

Cook has been running Apple for the better half of the last 3 years. I don't think the first real event on his watch, an event at which the product they release has been in the works for over a year, is what the company is hanging his success on. The last even Cook did was the iPhone on Verizon...I think he's well entrenched as the CEO of Apple and for the long haul.

Almost irrelevant since most don't know that. He's showing it off. All that matters.

Even though Cook has little time "officially" at the throne, and considering he's been the acting CEO plenty already, the press will label this as his time to shine. Even if in our eyes it's not yet. I'm sure investors will think the same thing too.

You realize that the percentage of iPhone owners/buyers that actually pay any attention to the keynotes or who is giving them is quite small, right?

Human psychology says: whoever is on the stage unveiling the new iPhone is responsible for that iPhone.

Therefore iPhone 5 will be associated with Tim Cook, not Steve Jobs.

Therefore OP's post is valid.

I'll remember the epic failure of his first keynote if it's just a 4s!
Like the 2nd poster said he has been CEO for less then 2 months. Whatever is being released today was in development way before he took over. Please go and pick up a 5.3" Andriod phone and be happy.

Tim Cook has been running Apple since January for all practical purposes. He will be remembered forever for this obsolete phone announcement. Wall Street will punish Apple severely. I'm off to the Sammy store...bye y'all.

I'd rather be remembered for an obsolete phone announcement than worthless internet forum posts.
