I bought my MacBook Pro on September 23rd, 2013. According to Apple, your Mac had to be purchased on or after October 1st, 2013 to get Pages, Keynote, and Numbers for free. Much to my delight I checked my Mac yesterday and the App Store told me I qualified for the free iWork apps! Just installed Mavericks and I was able to download them. Very pleased, as originally I was disappointed because I thought I wouldn't be able to get them.
On a side note, loving Mavericks so far! Even though I haven't used it for very long
