I am so tired of my home screen layout getting obliterated any time I want to add a widget to an existing Stack. I should be able to force touch a stack and have an option to add right there. Problem solved.
Have you tried dropping the widget directly onto the stack?

If the widget is created on another screen, how would I do that?
If the widget is an Apple stock app widget, you can enable wiggle mode on the screen and move the widget were yoU want just like a regular app. Once it is on the same screen as the stack widget, slowly slide the single widget overtop the stack widget and it will become part of the stack. You can’t add third party widgets to a Apple stack, as far as I am aware. I tried several times and saw it couldn’t be done.

Just drag it to the edge of the screen and the homescreen will switch. It's best to try and line it up first otherwise by default iOS 14 will push loads of icons to other screens, messing everything up, in order to make space for the new widget, before it realises you simply wnt to add it to an existing one/stack. I've just about got the hang of it.

A safer way is to drag the stack to the last (newly blank) home screen and then add others to it before dragging it back where it belongs.

But yes, as there's an option to remove widgets from a stack it'd make more sense to have an add option there too.

I have tried every way I can think, but I always end up with my home screen icons and folders completely shuffled, requiring me to reorder everything. Every time. I have yet to find a way to drag a widget across screen to add to a stack without it shuffling my icons and folders.

Is the new widget the same size as the stack?

You gotta drop the new widget on the stack directly on top of that like you would create a folder on iOS 13.

When dragging the widget from another screen, by the time I have dragged it to the screen with the stack and added to the stack, my icons and folders get shuffled out of order. All my screens are 'full' of icons and folders.

You gotta drop the new widget on the stack directly on top of that like you would create a folder on iOS 13.

Why not delete the darn widget on the other screen, go to the screen in which you want to add it to a stacked widget, and then add it from there. "Repeating the same disastrous routine that fails every time is a sign of insanity!" Okay, not exactly what Einstein said, but close enough. :D

I've tried that. When I do that it pushes all the icons and folders on that screen to the next screen, and even knocks them out of order. When I hit done,_sometimes_ icons will move back to the original screen, other times they'll stay on the other screen. It is indeed annoying which is why I posted.

Definitely a workaround. But my main point was that I should be able to add directly to a Stack. It would be such a better experience.

Build your stack in the today view, then drag it on the homescreen.

Not sure what the issue is..? Seems to work ok for me. A bit random, like moving icons around in iOS always seems to be, but like it or not, it’s actually no different to how it’s always worked.

Trying to stack the largest widget on an iPhone X is almost impossible. After trying for almost 10 mins., I managed to only stack one! Because the widget is too large to fit more than one on a screen at once, there's just not enough time to stack one on to another before the screen moves to another screen. Does anyone else have this problem?

Agreed. Kind of half-baked... Apple comes up with great idea, but it seriously makes you wonder how some of these things fly under the radar. They use iOS, right? Did not one of them think to themselves "Wow, it sucks getting the icons out of order every time I add a widget. Let's clean the interface for adding stacks and widgets up a bit..."

Side-note, I'd also like to customize the Music app widget. What if I want to go to a certain playlist or just my downloaded music?

I genuinely don't even know how I did this, but in the process of trying to move a widget from one home screen onto a stack on a different home screen, I managed to blow up a folder. All apps from that folder were scattered across multiple home screens.
