This is driving me nuts.

My OG HomePod has started throwing this error in Home.app -- the word "Account" shows up in red on its tile and when I click through, it says "Your AppleID or password is incorrect. Try again."

Here's the thing -- neither of those credentials is incorrect. I re-enter them in and all is well...for a little while. And then it throws the error again.

When this error is in effect, the HomePod's functions are very unreliable. I don't understand why this is happening or how to stop it. Tried rebooting it. No joy.

Has anyone else out there experienced this?

That happened to me on one of my HP's (I have 6) after the latest update. I entered the credentials and it has been working fine since.

I'm sure its a bug, it's nothing you did or didn't do. iOS 15.2 is still riddled with bugs like that. Notifications is still a nightmare. One day they work fine the next they completely fail or display as something entirely different with different menu options. I'm even getting notifications now on my Apple Watch asking me if I want to enable "when anyone leaves the home" notice when I've been at home all day. I get it on the watch but on no other device.

Apple's latest updates have been terribly buggy.

Yes. I’m not sure if it’s one or both of my OG homepods as they are in a stereo pair. It’s been showing this since the 15.2 update. I was only able to enter my password once. It stopped for a few days but now its back. It doesn’t give me the option to enter the password again. It’s not effecting the functioning of those homepods but it’s annoying seeing that red exclamation mark in my control centre.

This is still an intermittent issue for me. It seems to happen every time I restart my HomePod stereo pair.

Siri won‘t perform some HomeKit tasks until I enter the password.

It also happen to me again 2 days ago, I unplugged my original HomePod for a minute and when powered back up it required password entry again. Works fine afterward but still is annoying

Ditto for my HomePod mini. Must be another Apple bug. They need to ship their devices with a can of RAID bug spray! Maybe someday they will hire programmers who aren't industry rejects, and hire programming managers who actually give a crap...

I woke up this morning to this problem on one my stereo paired HomePod minis. No matter how many times I enter the correct password, the Home app keeps asking for the correct password.

After I updated to iOS 16.2 on Tuesday, everything was working fine now I get this today.

This bug is back? Sheesh I thought I read somewhere that Apple was supposed to fix this with 16.2.

This happened to me with 16.0 for the first time and took several and by several I mean 50+ attempts to get the password to stick. This comes and goes for me without rhyme or reason.

It stinks because I have no stereo pair anymore unless I can get the password to stick. I hope I don’t have to enter 50+ times like you had to.

As a follow-up, when I got home I took another look at the Home App situation and noticed when I tried to enter my passcode this time around, the app kept telling me that my phone and the HomePods were on 2 different wifi networks. I turned off the stereo pair option and then took a look at the name of the wifi network and it was the same as my phone. I removed the HomePod minis and set them up again as a stereo pair.

I got the same message in the bedroom. Going to have to go through the same process again. This continued trouble makes me want to stop using the HomePod minis in stereo if it is going to keep being the same scenario over and over.

I was getting this error on solo Minis too. I’d love to take one shot to the gullet on Craig Federighi. Okay fine, I’m not a violent individual but at least just gimme a set of hair clippers and him strapped to a chair. That guy sold me on this stuff with his promises of software delivery. It’s been nothing but heartache and headache. The amount of money I dumped on these paper weights I tell ya…

I had this after the 16.2 update. Noticed that one of my OG pair was not working. Rebooted it and still nothing. I thought it was bricked but then I checked the home app and saw the password error. Put my password in and it worked again. Was just getting ready to scour Facebook market place/eBay for a replacement. I’m trying to hold off on anymore OGs until the rumoured upgrade comes, hopefully next year.

Now I just checked Facebook marketplace because I was curious and I can see an OG black HomePod in my town. I’m a tempted to get another one. I just have to think about where to put it.

I've been experiencing this bug for months with all of the stereo paired HomePods I have around the house. Drives me crazy. Even when I ignore it the HomePods work just fine.

In the process of updating to 16.2, hope it helps.
