Is apple planning a paid version of iTunes and a bug has made this surface? Or is this some kind of new Mac malware or virus? What's going on?!

As above, it's because you've installed the iTunes 9.2 beta that was part of using the OS 4 beta SDK. The easiest thing to do is to download the non-beta iTunes 9.2 from Apple and install that.
