My 4 Atmos ceiling speakers finally have been installed. [They were supposed to arrive in 6 weeks, but took 24. The new cabinet may take a year].

I tried out Apple's Spatial playlist and another list from a Sound and Vision Magazine review:

I am not impressed. Having Justin Bieber singing on the ceiling seems a bit strange. Hearing a guitar moving in the ceiling from front right to front back, then back and forth in the back seems just gimmicky. Maybe my perceptions have been programmed from attending live concerts.

As for Spacial on the AirPod Max, spacial is blown away when I listen to the same track, lossless (still unsure whether spacial tracks come in a lossless version) without spatial on a moderately priced ($300) set of wired headphones. Maybe useful occasionally for a different perspective on a track.

My feeling that Spatial currently is just a marketing gimmick given that most recordings were not made with Atmos in mind and are being retrofitted. Maybe I'll change my mind when we get more original Atmos recordings.
