AppAdvice has saved me a ton of money and clued me into a lot of cool apps. It's like $1.99, but it's alerts about sales and "apps gone free" make the app pay for itself many times over.

I call it up at least once per day.

MacRumors, and sister site TouchArcade, have the free app AppShopper that does the same thing with push notifications.

My favorite apps are:
Reeder
FaceBook (official app)
Twitter (official app)
Instacast - podcast player and manager (kills native iPod/iTunes integration in functionality)
Things

1. TuneIn Radio. This is the app I use 90% of the times to listen to music
2. Maps. There is no GPS in my country, so use google maps instead
3. Facebook
4. Downoads. For downloading songs from mp3bee
5. Dropbox

Well these are the top 5 apart for the obvious ones.. camera, calculator, calendar, safari.
