I'm asking all the owners of the 24MD4KL-B about their longterm experiences with this monitor. Any bugs, complaints? I'm very close to pulling the trigger on this one but I need some reassurance since this is a big purchase for me.

I know that the 5K Ultrafine was plagued with ghosting/image retention, finnicky ports etc.

I'm running a M1 Macbook Air and looking for retina like display that doesn't break the bank.

It seems for a sub $1k price point this is my only viable option. Another 24" 4k seems to be LG's LG24UD58 but that comes with a cheaper stand, no usb c and after import fees and the extra cost for a thunderbolt dock would only be about $120 less than the Ultrafine 24".

The Studio Display is out of reach for me, as is the the 27" 5k Ultrafine with its $1300 pricetag. I know there's a secondary market but I prefer to buy all my electronics new because of the warranties.

Thanks in advance :)

Bought mine 1 month ago, so it is not a long term review. I am content with the display so far, it is super bright, noticeably brighter than my M1 MB Air, I never use it on full brightness, the size is ok, I thought it would be smaller as at first I was going to buy Dell 2723, but really wanted the glossy coating. 2x scalling as well as 2304x1296 works great, it wakes up from sleep when I have it in clamshell mode right away. The height adjustment is also good. No issues with image that you have mentioned.

Related to PC:
It works with my PC work laptop (dell E5480) over usb-c cable which is super important as I use it daily, but it does not charge dell laptop with capable power (as I get a notification that it is below 28W or something like this) the laptop still charges and has always 100% battery anyway (googled it and the issue is only with the other brands than apple). The hub also works.

I had the 21.7" version of that LG Ultrasharp display for my home usage a couple of years, I just sold it last month because I was scaling down my home office.

I loved it in combination with my MBP, with it's USB-C connectivity and ports, superb MacOS integration. Image quality was also superb.

After a couple of years (we talk 5–7 years here) it had serious image burn-in / ghosting. But that probably is the case with every display after so many years. For home usage it was still fine.

Edit: Here is a picture

I’ve got this display in May 2020 at Apple Store. I absolutely love it and would probably buy it again. There some issues that I noticed:
1. The sound in speakers is distorted on certain frequencies. Still quite a good sound though
2. The built quality is okay. If you squeeze the frame it will squeak
3. I’ve got dust in the right and left bottom corners under the screen. Visible only on light/white images. The bezels of the monitor are collecting some dust in the bottom edges and apparently due to reason 2. the dust went under the screen. I could never find anyone complaining about this though. Will bring it to Service Centre and see if they can fix it and if the fix will be long term.

I have been using the 27” Ultrafine since early launch. It’s a great monitor, only major issue I have is with image retention. It happens on both monitors we own. Also since we have earlier models, I have seen some flicker interference from environmental RF but to be honest it has happened in a long time. Newer models have this fixed.

Comparing to most 4K monitors out there there is something super nice about the picture quality. Honestly for Mac the only other monitor I would get other than the Ultrafine would be the Studio Display. It just works and there is nothing to complain about really in terms of picture quality.

I've been using two of the 24MD4KL-B monitors for several years and have no complaints. The build quality is average, so expecting Apple levels of fit and finish will leave you disappointed. The screens themselves are reasonably well calibrated and free of obvious defects. Backlight bleed and uniformity is slightly better than other monitors I've had. The 4K resolution on a 24" screen allows integer scaling without excessively large UI elements.

I'm thinking of getting 2 of these now but not sure it is still worth it in 2022 considering the size (prefer 27" over 24") and the bezel size. Is the bezel size something you got used to guys? thanks

I like mine. Screen looks nice, lots of ports in the back, bezel is symmetric unlike the 5k. Speakers are not good. 4K isn't enough screen real estate. On my ASD I can have a text editor open with the file directory column, and two columns of code at 120 character width, which I cannot do on the ultra fine 4k. Might get a second if my work can't upgrade me to Monterey before the return window for my ASD closes.

Bought mine in late 2020. Use it daily, really happy with it. Build quality could generally be improved and speakers are pretty bad, but picture quality is fantastic (high PPI) and it works seamlessly with my USB-C Macs. Also quite like its design despite what most think.

Thanks all for responses, do you all run in "looks like 1920x1080"? or is sometning higher usable? my 27 runs in 2560x1440 but that would be maybe too small on 24".

I run my 24” in looks like 1080p. I would definitely like to have 27” looks like 1440p or have two of the 24” to have more real estate, but it’s acceptable for the price :)

I've had two 4k and two 5k monitors now. Owned one of the 5k monitors since they launched, the others have been used less frequently and sold on, I still use the original 5k monitor at home. I'm a big fan of these monitors, even now the image quality on both the 4k and 5k is outstanding in comparison to other displays I've seen/used.

My only issue I have, which has really only been occurring in the last few months, is that I'm getting temporary screen burn/ghosting along the top bar and dock. It goes away if I leave the screen off for awhile or run some fullscreen videos. It's happening on my oldest display which I purchased in early 2017, so maybe time to look at a replacement. I'd be tempted by the Apple Studio Display but it seems so expensive in comparison to the LG 5k.

Sounds like the same problem the 27" iMacs had. There is a process to clean it, but it involves separating the layers of the display assembly.......

Hi @Propine, What happened in the end with your LG 24MD4KL-B dust under the screen issue?
I’ve opened case with LG Support and they have replaced panel. The new panel had a full height vertical line of dead pixels, so I had to open a new case and get a new panel. Now I finally have a properly working display :)
