Your option on best install for older Mac

Laptop has 10.5 but will be updated to 10.6 here soon. Just wondering what version works best with the older mac?

Early 2008, 2.4ghz, 250gb SSD,

10.6 is a really solid OS. Lots of people still run it on their machines. Personally, I didn't notice much of a difference between 10.5 and 10.6 on my mid-2009 2.26ghz.
