Just putting this out there.
A VERY long time ago I used an app named One Trick Pony by a company called Stimpsoft. OTP is OS9 and OSX 10 compatible.
It does ONE thing and ONE thing only, hence the name.
It watches a folder and if there are ANY changes (additions or deletions) it emails you.
Unfortunately, I misplaced my download and didn't realize it until yesterday. Thankfully the stars aligned and I was able to get it back thanks to @bunnspecial. He still had it on the hard drive of the PM 6500 I sent him.
In today's modern internet era however, OTP has one BIG problem. It uses SMTP without authentication on port 25. All big no-no's because of the potential to spam people with email.
This means the app cannot send email because it was never updated to take into account authentication.
But there is a solution…and it's built inside OS X. Postfix is an email server and you can turn it on. Which is what I did following these instructions: http://www.david-reitter.com/software/osxpostfix.html
Then all I did was put in 127.0.0.1 (localhost) for the SMTP server for OTP and VOILA! Back in business!
So, now the Applescript server at work is also functioning as an email server.
Just thought I'd pass this along for anyone interested in using their own Mac as an email server.
EDIT: Thanks again @bunnspecial!
