I have a Sony TV with Android TV built in. As well as an Apple TV 4K. The YouTube app looks identical (now since a week ago) to the Apple TV app. However, on Android TV there is a long press action to add videos to "watch later" or mark "not interested" etc. without actually playing the video. I was hoping that the Apple TV app which now has the same look as all other YouTube apps that this function would come to the Apple TV as well. I use it very often for building my watch later list.

On the Apple TV it is very counterinterutive to play a video, add to a list, then back out of the video rather than having this long-press menu.

Does anyone know if this function exists or will exist on Apple TV?

I thought it was not working due to me using my TV remote, my iPhone Apple TV remote but then I tried the Siri remote and long-press does nothing in the youtube app. Once you let go the video highlighted will play.

Just wanted to see other's thoughts on this as well.

Thanks.

i think that function will depend on YouTube including it in the app. Prime Video includes it, but none of my other streaming apps implement the long press function.

Thanks! Wasn’t sure if it was a limitation in the Apple TV itself due to Apple’s rules for apps. However I know YouTube doesn’t tend to follow the general UI rules for its app when compared to other apps on the Apple TV.

The youtube ATV app is goofy and also does not yet support the new remote jog function and has issues with the +15sec/-15sec feature. The whole thing is goofy.
