Hi,

A few days ago I started having an issue with Youtube.
When I start a video, quite often the video goes back few seconds and plays the same segment.

Anyone having the same issue?

My add-ons are Adguard and SponsorBlock.

I think it's something to do with youtube embedding ads in their videos. I use Wipr 2, and I'm getting a popup saying "Experiencing interruptions?" I don't see ads, but this remains for a few seconds before the video plays. I'm sure that the devs will be able to fix this soon.

Yeah I had this too, and YT takes long to load sometimes.

Im using Adguard personally.

It has to be it because I just did clean install of OS 26.

They are slowing down videos for browsers that have ad blockers installed. That seems weird because the delay is still nothing compared to watching the ads. Try LibreWolf, Waterfox, or even Firefox with uBlock Origin if you get stuck with no way to watch without ads. It's updated within hours.

Most annoying for me is that some videos start and then go back to the beginning.
Not sure whose fault that is.

There is always mpv, yt-dlp, VLC, and similar to watch. Just download the video or tell the player what to play and you're set. I use an OnnTV box with SmartTube and s0undTV installed so I can watch without ads or Youtuber sponsor mentions on my TV

Too much hassle tbh.

It depends on your needs. For most, LibreWolf, Waterfox, or similar with uBlock Origin, Sponsorblock, and a few other things will be enough. For some, they want to maximize their battery life or live somewhere challenging for hardware to run like a very hot/humid climate. That is where mpv/VLC and other alternatives come in handy. They take sometimes much much less CPU/GPU power to run than the video does playing in the browser.

As far as hassle, you just need to set it up so that when you click a video to watch LibreWolf sends the URL to mpv. Takes a few minutes, but otherwise it's just click and it pops up. I use that trick when I'm going through airports and on planes. Works great with the M series

I'd never heard of that before - that's pretty cool that you can do that.

I use 'Vinegar' and 'StopTheMadness' and although I've had to turn off Content Blockers for the YouTube site, somehow.. not sure how, both 'Vinegar' and 'StopTheMadness' continue to do their job and I no longer see the YouTube prompt about using Ad Blockers.

"YouTube’s new anti-adblock measures" https://iter.ca/post/yt-adblock/
"One thing that people have ran into is “fake buffering”, where videos will take a while to load due to a lot of buffering, but only at the very start of the video (there’s no mid-video fake buffering). As I’ll explain, the fake buffering is 80% of the length of the ads you would’ve seen, so even with fake buffering you’re still saving time using an adblocker."
