So this is an ancient problem I think, but I'm semi new to...Safari on my mac. I was one of those converts who used chrome right away because I was having issues with Safari and never went back. I'm trying to transition back into Safari only, and while I've overcome some of the issues, I haven't quite been able to fix all of them. One in particular that is bothering me a lot, is that I can't seem to play UHD videos on Youtube, with Safari.

The default choices for a video uploaded to Youtube with Chrome are the formats 144p, 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p, and 2180p. However with Safari only 240p, 360p, and 720p are available. I have installed clicktoflash, which apparently gives me the option of 1080p youtube videos on Safari, but I usually prefer to watch in 1440p, and since I am used to that, 1080p actually looks kind of blurry on my 15" rMBP. Does anyone have a solution? I really really don't want to have to keep chrome open as well as Safari, just to play youtube videos in it.

I'm hoping that there is just some sort of blocking agent or misconfiguration going on, and that full 2k and 4k video formats are not incapable of being played on Safari.
