Last year for the first time several well known sport fitness / watch reviewers were invited to the Apple Watch / iPhone launch for the first time ever, mainly because of the Apple Watch Ultra. Some of you might have seen MacRumors link to DCRainmaker's (Ray Maker) early test of the Ultra watch inside a pressurized water container to simulate dives to the max depth of the watch... well he just got invited to WWDC. I think WatchOS 10 is going to be a big deal and will expand the capabilities on the sports side of the house for both Apple Watch but also Ultra.

My guesses?

1) All Apple Watches will get compatibility with bluetooth bike power meters and cadence sensors, a very important piece of training equipment for triathletes in particular and one of the glaring features missing from Apple Watch that is very standard with all other sport watch companies like Garmin, Polar, and others.

2) I think Ultra will get worldwide trail maps and on the fly routing of hikes. Think of this as Apple Maps but for hiking. No more "crumb" trail waypoint system like got launched on Ultra last year but rather a rich, robust trail map system with topography maps and everything.

3) Maybe some kind of expansion of Apple Fitness+ to provide links between Apple Watch or iPhone and approved brands of fitness equipment... like a Peloton style bike, treadmill, rower etc.?

From your lips to Tim Apple’s ears. I would take literally no other upgrades besides the mapping. That is the beginning, middle, and end of my wishlist.

I mean it doesn't mean much but DCRainmaker last year said after his one on one brief from Apple that they privately acknowledged to him they are aware that the lack of trail mapping was a weak point of the new Ultra compared to the competitors who all do it standard at that price range... that to me seems low hanging fruit to fix with a software update.
