What do I need to "subscribe" to someone's YouTube Channel?

a.) Any email address?

b.) Specifically a Gmail address?

c.) A YouTube account?

d.) A YouTube Channel?

e.) Other?

Those are all included with, and subsumed under, a Google account. Once you establish your Google account, you can sign into Gmail, YouTube, or any other Google product using the same user name and password you chose when creating your Google account.

So since I already have a Gmail account, then I culd "subscribe" to another person's YouTube channel?

What exactly does that even mean?

Do I get emails when there is new content? Something else?

Why not give it a try? A lot of this is very intuitive. My 80 year old mother in law hopped on YouTube and got things running fairly easily.

There is a subscribe button on every channel, next to that subscribe button is a bell icon that allows you to choose to be notified certain ways.

Edit: I don't mean my statements as a bash - not at all, but as an encouragement. :)

I'm an analyst by profession, and also very cautious... ;-)

It's cool - but I'm still overly cautious! :)

(That, and it's bad enough I'm giving up my social media - and likely cell phone - virginity this Spring?!)

If you have a Gmail account, then you have a Google account. Just click subscribe on the channel you want to subscribe to and also click the bell icon to get notifications about new uploads from that channel. If you aren't already signed into Google, obviously it will prompt you to sign in. At the top left of YouTube, click the 3-line icon, then click on Settings, then Notifications . . . under Your Preferences, be sure Subscriptions is turned on and under Email Notifications, be sure "Send me emails..." is turned on. If you install the YouTube app on your phone and sign in, you can forgo the email notifications in favor of app notifications if you wish.

I decided a few weeks ago to create my own YouTube channel, but have been too busy with a million other business-related things to do it yet. (That, and I'm still deliberting if I break down and convert my hotspot to a cell-phone plan - which costs way too much money!!) :(

Presumably if I have my own YouTube channel then I can subscribe to other YouTube channels, right?

Oh yeah, and another question...

I thought that when I briefly looked into creating a YouTube channel a month or two ago, that I saw that you can create one using a non-Gmail email address - for example like my business email address which uses my domain name.

Does that sound correct?

I ask, because I am likely going to close out the Gmail account I have, and I'd really prefer to tie a YouTube channel to my business and preferably my business email address.

I'm not sure about the non-Gmail with YouTube question. Worst case scenario, you could just set up forwarding from Gmail to your other email. I don't even think you need a channel to subscribe, but that's a moot point since you have one anyway.

Well, I want to create a YouTube channel so I can publish my own content for my startup.

And my interest in YouTube is growing with all of the content related to the pandemic and race protests, plus I've lately just found some very inspirational content in general. (I am also becoming addicted to ClipGrab which lets me download full-screen videos to add to my library!)

Yes, if I cannot set up a YouTube accout and channel with my business email, then I may have to keep my junk Gmail email account for sign up.

You don't need a) through e). I subscribe to around 100 YouTube channels without clicking any subscribe button at all. I get instant updates and do not have a YouTube account.

So you have a similar method to what I do as well. I actually don’t subscribe to any YouTube channels whatsoever, but I do follow some Youtubers with cars, tactical reviews, media, tech, etc. Any of those channels that I frequently visit, their videos start trending on my Homepage without requiring my subscription.
