To celebrate YouTube's 20th anniversary, the YouTube team today announced that YouTube TV is getting an interface update in the near future.

Starting in the next few weeks, YouTube TV members will be able to build their own multiview with select non-sports content. A small group of popular channels will be available to begin with, though access will be expanding in the coming months.

Later this year, the YouTube app for TVs will be redesigned, with YouTube aiming to introduce easier navigation, playback, quality tweaks, and streamlined access to comments, channel info, and subscribing. The YouTube app for TV sets hasn't seen notable updates for several years now, but a sneak peek suggests that YouTube is aiming for a more Netflix-like design with rows of shows and content from paid services.

YouTube says the YouTube app for TVs will be updated sometime this summer.

Other YouTube changes available as part of YouTube's 20th anniversary celebration include 4x playback speed for YouTube Premium members, a new temporary YouTube logo, and birthday-themed animations.

How about fixing the auto cancellation and deleting of typing on search for these apps? I only have these issues with YouTube and YouTube TV on my Apple TVs. Have had the issues for the past 3 years on all of my units no matter what I do. Appears to be a common issue too.

They better make navigation easier on tvOS, yes.

They scrapped all the channels I'm subscribed to like 5 months ago.

They were in alpha order before, now it seems like a random order (channels with new videos combined with newly subscribed channels appear first).

I end up going back to the search feature all the time. Ridiculously annoying.

That happens on basically all services except over-the-air broadcast. For me, it happens on cable, Apple TV+, and MLB.tv.
Well, that's true for all commercial television services. But Twitch has a latency as low as 3 seconds. Youtube, meaning the non-tv website, has latency as low as 5 seconds on some livestreams.

And it’s not a matter of the technology not being there. YouTube TV intentionally adds a delay in to minimize interruptions. I get that their intentions are good. But WiFi speeds have gotten so fast, and internet latency has gotten so short in terms of ping speeds. They can do better.

Don't forget the endless spam 🤮 from ads from YouTube to feed their (COUGH COUGH) content creators 😚 Oh yes, you can use spam blockers.o_O

Please remove the multi User login screen. I dont have any other users. Its me every time. So let me skip that screen so my voice commands work and go right to video. You kiboshed voice commands. Come on think idiots

Wait a minute. Never heard of this thing until 5 minutes ago. You want to tell me that there is 8 million Americans willing to pay almost 100 dollars a month to watch some ****** tv? Whaaaaaa?!

Waiting to see how the TV app will change. Easier navigations and better recommendations of the TV app will be nice to have.

On that same screen there is a settings button that lets you turn it off, I think.

I'm a recent Youtube TV subscriber (after being forced off TIVO by Spectrum). Am using Apple TVs as my streaming devices. Am sorely disappointed by the present Youtube TV interface. Manually trying to move past commercials is fraught with problems. The insertion of "Sponsored" commercials many hours after the recording was completed is infuriating. I'm actively looking to an alternative to YouTube TV. Suggestions welcome.

The only redesign I want is the reinstatement of the ability to stop the app from playing if I close my ipad or lock my phone. Incredibly annoying that if I just lock the screen, the audio keeps playing. I can understand that for a music app, but if I'm watching and I close the device, I clearly don't want to be watching anymore!
