Once the jailbreak is released, install 3G/4G unrestrictor. It tricks your phone into thinking it's on wifi
I only use wifi for youtube anyway, so this is good news. I've been waiting for this feature.
Grrr, what is Google's problem? I have unlimited mobile 3G and 4G, I don't need restrictions!
What's worse is that it still isn't updated for iOS 7!![]()
What do you mean? It runs fine on iOS 7 and the changelog said iOS 7 specific changes are in the latest release.
Still uses iOS 6 APIs and UI elements. It isn't an "official" iOS 7 app. It hasn't been updated for new APIs.
99% of the updated apps still support iOS 6. But Youtube does support the iOS 7 api. Apps don't have to adopt the same exact look as stock apps. There is no requirement to do so and that has little to do with the iOS 7 APIs.
I can't find the setting to change the playback quality, am I being stupid?

Read the changelog. It's been updated to work with IOS 7 since the previous version.
McTube was updated today to iOS 7 and supports any quality setting over 3G/LTE you can also set it to automatically pick whatever quality setting you want.
I gave up on the official YouTube app years ago, been using Jasmine as the replacement.
just get Protube it lets you use 1080p even on LTE or 3G and also plays audio when exiting the app
While that's true, would using the new keyboard improve the app in any meaningful way?No new keyboard = no iOS7, they are still using the old version of xcode.

Old keyboard, no swipe gestures, and it still has the same overall look. It was updated so it wouldn't crash on iOS 7, but it wasn't updated or redesigned for iOS 7.

There's no rule that apps have to look like stock apps. And Youtube has swipe gestures (has had them before iOS 7 came out). You can swipe to bring up the navigation, you can swipe a video down to multitask in the app, and you can swipe a video off the screen. I wouldn't expect to see a re-design of Youtube unless it matches the Android counterpart. Plus, Youtube's design is already close to the iOS 7 stock apps design anyways.
Ah, so mainly a subjective personal preference type of thing. That works.Consistency is a pretty meaningful thing to me.
