hi all. Im on my wifes pc laptop and hate it so I apologize if my grammar suffers here.

I was on you tube watching a video and a gray window falls over my screen that says I will need to reboot. I am locked up and cannot cancel or escape or anything as the keyboard is also not working. I let it sit for a bit thinking what to do.

I had no choice. I put the snow leopard cd in the drive and couldnt access it but hoped it would read on reboot. it didnt

Pushing the power button to start and the little white light is constant. no booting sound is heard and the keyboard is dead.

any clue what to do? I thought the imac was immune to such things.

help? anf thanks

I did the smc kernal panic procedure but nothing different happened. the light on the front light comes on the cd starts to read then stops.

The imac is unplugged now. I have had the twin intel cpu imac for 3 or 4 years and have no coverage on it now.

I also lost my job in april so money is always an issue. what is likely the issue can you guess? and is it expensive?

*sigh*

ok thanks

I will call apple I guess about taking it in to see what wrong with it.

It just could not have happened at a worse time. This laptop goes to work with my wife.

oh poo.

this happened to my macbook, quite a bit actually. I had bought ram from crucial and it started doing it. But I was convinced it was my graphics card cause this would only happen when watching videos that were hd. I took it to apple and they only determined it was a ram issue. I couldn't get it to freeze up at the store so it made me look like I was making stuff up but I think it's more then ram... Who knows

Im guessing it is a board issue, since I have seen that before. Take it in for service before trying to replace hardware yourself. This way you can verify it is not ram or hard drive.

Sorry to bump an age old thread... But I'm wondering if anyone figured out what this was.

Having the same problem with kernel panics while watching YouTube.
